Tokaido BEER

Tokaido BEER Kawasaki-juku Brewery is a brewery where the history of the place is steeped into the beer. It opened along the old Tokaido route in December 2018, and it was created by brewer Tatsuji Tanoue.

He originally had his own brewery called 'Kazekami Beer Brewery.' He's known for making distinctive beers, and he was invited by Tokaido BEER to join the launch. You could call him an ace helper in the brewing world.

Here’s the thing: Genna 9, or 1623, was the year Kawasaki-juku was officially established as a post town along the Tokaido. That IPA balances citrus aromas with a firm bitterness for a refreshing finish, and it has also been recognized at the Japan Great Beer Awards.

'Blush Pretext' is a ruby-colored beer made with strawberries and honey, 'Black Relaxation' is a black beer with a complex herbal aroma at 7% ABV, and 'Barley Encounter' is a white beer brewed with orange peel and coriander. Their naming sense is great too.

More recently, they released a limited-edition 'Plum Aroma Ale' made with plum for the local Miyuki Park plum-blossom viewing event, and 'Yoi no Iro' made with Okinawan shell ginger, so they’re pushing seasonal releases too.

It’s a Japanese-style space inspired by Edo-era Kawasaki-juku, with slender white-wood frames and glass fittings that feel delicate, and stainless-steel tanks lit up behind them. It’s a 7-minute walk from Keikyu Kawasaki Station, so it’s great for a date too.
