A Festival Rooted in Kawasaki’s Tokaido History

Tokaido BEER will take part in the Tokaido Kawasaki Shukuba Festival 2026 on Sunday, October 4. The event will run from 10:00 to 16:00 across several venues along the former Tokaido road.

The program includes a 1.2-kilometer costume parade from the Sunago intersection to the former Rokugo ferry crossing, as well as an Edo-style procession commemorating the relationship between Kawasaki and Naha. At the Tokaido Kawasaki-shuku Exchange Museum, visitors can experience traditional activities including kimono dressing, ukiyo-e printmaking, old-fashioned games and a tea ceremony.

The Rokugo ferry venue will feature food stalls, mobile vendors, family-friendly activities and a sightseeing cruise on the Tama River. At Sosenji Temple, visitors can also enjoy live music, local food, games and other programming that brings together the history and present-day character of the area. A walking puzzle event will invite participants to explore Kawasaki-shuku while learning about its Edo-period heritage.

Craft Beer Reflecting the City

Based in Kawasaki-ku, Kawasaki City, Tokaido BEER operates a brewery and beer bar along the former Tokaido road. Its official concept highlights four facets of Kawasaki: the Tokaido, Kawasaki-shuku, barley fields and factories. The brewery presents its beer as a way to experience the city’s history, industry and changing identity.

The taproom is approximately a seven-minute walk from Keikyu Kawasaki Station and nine minutes from the North Exit of JR Kawasaki Station. With weekend and holiday opening hours beginning at noon, it may be a convenient stop after exploring the festival venues.

Further information about Tokaido BEER’s booth, beer lineup and serving details is expected through the brewery’s official social media channels. The festival offers a distinctive opportunity to connect Kawasaki’s historic post-town landscape with beer brewed in the same neighborhood.
