Brimmer Brewing is a brewery run by Scott Brimmer from California and his wife, Yoshiko Oguro, working side by side as a husband-and-wife team.

An international couple running a brewery! What kind of background does Scott have?
Hop Bro
Back in college, he worked at Sierra Nevada Brewing. He trained at one of the pioneering breweries of American craft beer, then came to Japan and spent five years brewing at Gotemba Kogen Beer.
Mugi
Wait, Sierra Nevada!? That's a legend in the American craft beer scene!
Hop Bro
Exactly. Yoshiko is from Takatsu Ward in Kawasaki City, and the two met at a bar near Scott's university in California. Scott's dream of brewing his own beer and Yoshiko's wish to build something in her hometown came together, and they founded the brewery in Kuji in April 2011.
Mugi
That was right after the Great East Japan Earthquake, wasn't it?
Hop Bro
Exactly. Yoshiko also said, 'We had no experience, but we were convinced that this was precisely the time to pursue our own vision.' Their resolve is incredible.
Mugi
What kind of beer styles do they make?
Hop Bro
Scott's philosophy is clear: instead of chasing trendy, super-powerful IPAs, he focuses on making 'the kind of beer I want to drink - tasty beer that's easy to keep drinking.' Their flagship Pale Ale has citrusy aromas, the Golden Ale is fruity and perfect for summer, and the Porter has a chocolatey depth. They've kept the recipes unchanged since the brewery was founded.

Sticking to your vision is so cool! Where can I drink it?
Hop Bro
They have a directly operated taproom called Brimmer Beer Station Kuji, which opened in front of Kuji Station in 2017. At first, they steadily spread the word through farmers' markets, and now they've become a brewery rooted in the local community. Choosing the Nambu Line area was intentional too - they wanted to compete in a place with few existing breweries.
Mugi
I had no idea there was such a serious craft brewery hiding along the Nambu Line! I've never gotten off at Kuji, but now I want to go!
