Danchi Kitchen Tajima

Do you know Danchi Kitchen Tajima? It’s a facility right at the entrance of the UR Tajima Danchi, renovated from a former bank building, and it combines a cafe, a shared kitchen, and a brewery.

It’s run by Japan General Housing, a company that manages apartment complexes, and the brewmaster, Mr. Fukuda, is a company employee with brewery training experience. With the idea that food brings people together and alcohol sparks conversation, they’re using beer to help revitalize the community in the housing complex.

And it’s actually getting results. At JGBA 2025, they won 5 medals, and in 2026, 6 of the 7 entries won awards: 4 silver and 2 bronze. On top of that, the contract-brewed iikamo!!’s "Kissho Jabara Wheat" won gold at JGBA 2026.

Exactly. The setup includes a Slovenia-made Brewiks 200, which produces about 200 liters per batch, and for experimental small batches they can also use a Canada-made BIAC for around 40 liters. Because the batches are small, they can keep trying local farm ingredients as adjuncts.

And they also won a Good Design Award in 2023. It’s just a 3-minute walk from JR Nishi-Urawa Station, and they also hold brewing experience workshops, so you can experience the making side too.
