Mya Brew, based in Chikusa Ward, Nagoya, has tapped a new sour ale called Berry Berry Happy. According to the brewery's post, the beer was brewed for Hinata Shoten's collaboration event, "Enjoy Seasonal Summer Deer," and was designed with venison pairing in mind.
The recipe uses three red fruits: raspberry, red currant, and pomegranate. Mya Brew says the beer pours a vivid ruby color, with berry-like aromas and a red-fruit character. It was built to deliver a firm acidity without feeling heavy, making it easy to drink. Cherry oak was also added to layer in a subtle tannic edge and extra depth.
The brewery notes that venison and red fruit are a familiar combination in European cuisine. In this beer, the fruit acidity is meant to sharpen the meat's umami, while the mild bitterness from oak-derived polyphenols helps the beer blend with the bold flavor of deer meat. The beer is listed as a Fruit Sour Ale at 6.0% ABV and 22 IBU.
The post also mentions the collaboration event with Hinata Shoten and says reservations have been coming in. It is a straightforward example of Mya Brew building a beer around food pairing and local collaboration rather than releasing it as a standalone novelty.
