In the shopping street of Fujisawa Honmachi, there’s a brewer who turned a former fish shop into a brewery. That’s Makoto Oura of Aura Brewing.
Mugi
A former fish shop!? They make beer there? That’s interesting!
Hop Bro
Oura has lived in Fujisawa for 20 years and trained as a brewer at Iwami Beer in Shimane. They opened in August 2025, and what makes them unique is that they brew 13 kinds of beer inspired by all 13 districts of Fujisawa City, called the "F Series".
Mugi
13 districts and 13 kinds!? I want to drink them all! What kinds are there?
Hop Bro
For example, "F#1 Island Breeze" is inspired by the Katase area, light and refreshing like the sea breeze around Enoshima. "F#12 Toasty Days" represents the Chogo area, with the gentle feel of everyday life and the toasty aroma of barley. Oura’s recommendation is "F#5 First Light," which is said to be clear, powerful, and sharply defined.
Mugi
If there were a beer for the area you live in, you’d definitely want to drink it! People in Fujisawa must love that.
Hop Bro
And there’s also a "Hamakaze Ale" made with hamabofu, a coastal plant local to the area. They’ve even made wooden trays for beer flights together with a local woodworking shop, @yamadaimokuzai.
Mugi
Oh wow! Even the tasting trays are a local collaboration! It really feels like the ties in the shopping street.
Hop Bro
Also, Oura works at a special subsidiary company on employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and he values creating an environment where everyone can work together. He’s not just about beer, but also strongly focused on community building.
Mugi
He’s connecting the town and its people through beer. I definitely want to stop by Fujisawa Honmachi on a stroll!
