What kind of brewery is Amaterasu?
Hop BroDid you know there’s a brewery on Enoshima Island? AMATERASU Brewery opened in the spring of 2024, and it’s pretty wild.
MugiWhat, on Enoshima itself? You mean you can grab a drink on the way to a shrine visit?
Hop BroExactly. It’s the first brewery on the island. The founder, Hayato Fukazawa, spent his twenties traveling around the world and working at cafes and restaurants in various places, and his motto is to work as if traveling.
MugiWow, that’s so cool... So what kind of beer do they have?
Hop BroThey’ve got a 3S Sports theme: Snow, Skate, and Surf. SURF BLUE is a pale ale at 6%, SNOW WHITE is a saison at 4.5%, and SKATE RED is a West Coast IPA at 6.5%. SKATE RED uses Citra and Columbus hops.
MugiOhhh! It’s cool that the beer names are sports. It really has that Shonan vibe.
Hop BroAnd since they brew in-house, they usually have around eight beers on tap, including hazy IPA and imperial IPA. Also, there’s a private sauna above the taproom, and the cold plunge can get down to minus 2°C.
MugiA sauna!? At a brewery!? So you get to drink beer after getting fully relaxed?
Hop BroExactly. They also have a private room with a panoramic view of the sea around Enoshima, and the concept is an "adults-only secret base." They also seem to host events in collaboration with Shonan surf and skate culture.
MugiThis isn’t just a place to go drink beer anymore - I want to make it part of a full day of fun on Enoshima! I’m definitely going!
