Takatsugawa River Beer is based in Takatsu, Masuda City, Shimane, and makes craft beer using the waters of the Takatsu River and local agricultural ingredients. The brewery's official site emphasizes its approach of turning local water and produce into beers that reflect the character of the region.

The new release is called Masuda Melon Wheat. In its Instagram post, the brewery says it uses a large amount of Amus melon and finishes with a bright, fresh melon aroma. The beer was first trial-brewed last year, and this launch marks its long-awaited commercial release.

Distribution is limited to seven Kinuya store locations and the brewery's own sales counter, Takatsuno. The brewery also says it will not wholesale the beer to liquor shops in the city. Takatsugawa River Beer has previously worked with local ingredients such as Shine Muscat grapes, strawberries, and yuzu, and this new beer continues that focus with Masuda-grown melon as the centerpiece. For drinkers interested in how local fruit translates into beer, it is a notable seasonal release.
