Mya-Brew taps "Momiji IP.A," using hops grown from Korankei leaf compost
Aichi-Nagoya craft beer hub Mya-Brew announced a new tap, "Momiji IP.A," in a post on the final day of the long weekend. This IPA uses hops grown in compost made from fallen leaves in Asuke's Korankei, and it is a pint that also aims to share the appeal of the area's scenery and daily life.
In Mya-Brew's latest post, the opening of a new tap, "Momiji IP.A", was announced. The style is IPA, and the alcohol content is 6.0%. The post explains that the beer was created through contract brewing at butterfly brewery by Ippei, who is involved in community revitalization in the Asuke district.
This time, the defining feature is the story behind the ingredients. Hops were used that were grown in soil made by composting fallen leaves from Korankei, a famous autumn foliage spot in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. By using a brewing design that makes use of compost derived from fallen leaves such as momiji maples, the post introduced it as a "bitter beer."
The naming is also unique. The product name "momiji IP.A" combines Ippei (IPPEI), Asuke (ASUKE), and IPA. By giving it a name that layers the local area and the maker's intent, the beer goes beyond being just a limited release and clearly conveys its connection to the land.
Mya-Brew is a brewery/beer bar based in Aichi, and in the post it presents a lineup that includes guest kegs alongside its own beers. Along with the new tap, "Momiji IP.A," it refreshes its daily tap lineup and offers a craft beer experience rooted in local context.
Turning local resources into beer adds another layer of enjoyment for drinkers beyond flavor alone. For those who want to taste not only what is in the glass but also the landscape where the ingredients were grown and the local issues behind it, this is a release worth watching.
