Hideji Beer, based in Nobeoka, Miyazaki, has announced that it will take over the business of B.M.B Brewery and add the facility to its brewing network.

The succession follows consultations with Matsuda, who operated B.M.B Brewery, about the future of brewing. B.M.B began as BEER MARKET BASE before establishing its own brewery. Since then, Matsuda has worked to develop craft beer in Miyazaki, building connections with local drinkers and breweries across Japan.

Hideji Beer says the succession is intended to preserve more than brewing equipment. The brewery aims to carry forward the challenges, relationships and passion that Matsuda cultivated through his work. It describes the move as a new step toward connecting Miyazaki’s craft beer culture with the next generation.

A base for small-batch experimentation

The newly inherited facility is not intended to become a large-scale production site. Instead, Hideji Beer plans to make use of its small equipment for projects that benefit from short runs, flexible ideas and experimentation with new beer styles.

Possible directions include beers made with Miyazaki ingredients, collaborations with local producers and restaurants, and products that would be difficult to develop at a larger, centralized brewery. The facility is expected to serve as a platform for communicating new aspects of Miyazaki through beer.

Hideji Beer has brewed in the natural surroundings at the foot of Mount Mukabaki in Nobeoka since its founding in 1996. Its brewing philosophy includes the use of granite-filtered underground water, freshly cultivated house yeast and locally sourced agricultural products. The brewery has also worked with local farmers and pursued projects involving Miyazaki-grown barley and hops.

Through the succession of B.M.B Brewery, one brewer’s accumulated work will move into a new chapter. The addition of this brewing base could bring further variety and experimentation to Miyazaki’s growing craft beer scene.
