Strawberry Sour Ale made with Iki strawberries

CraftBeerSpot Hathor’s featured draft is Island Brewery’s Strawberry Sour Ale. Now in its sixth year of production, the beer is brewed in a 600-liter batch with 120 kilograms of strawberries from Iki.

The strawberries are carefully washed with sanitizing water, hulled and frozen by the brewery staff before brewing. The finished sour ale is designed to preserve the fruit’s natural acidity and aroma. At 4.5% ABV and 5 IBU, it offers a light, refreshing profile that should also work well with food.

A varied draft selection

The recommended beer is Karl Strauss’ Mosaic Session IPA, a 5.5% ABV, 45 IBU beer that brings hop character in an approachable session format.

Other taps include Kirin Beer’s Braumeister; Deschutes and Minoh Beer’s collaboration Crispy Cozy Minoh Mash; T.Y. Harbor’s KASUMI and Berry Wheat; Minoh Beer’s Pale Ale Real Ale Ver; and Memory Field, a collaboration between Nara Brewing and Flora Fermentation.

The IPA selection also features That’s Dangerous from Barebottle, Introspectre from Varietal, and KANSHA 29 from Minoh Beer. For a darker finish, guests can choose Kurikuro from Miyazaki Hideji Beer, a rich black beer made with chestnuts.

From bright fruit acidity and expressive hops to malt-driven depth, Hathor’s lineup offers plenty of directions for an evening of craft beer in Osaka.
