Limited Belgian White Combining Yuzu and Sansho

Forest Brewing in Kawasaki Town, Miyagi Prefecture, released its limited-batch "SHIJUKARA - Shijukara -" on April 6. The beer style is Belgian White. While based on the traditional Belgian wheat beer, it uses Amagoi yuzu from nearby Shibata Town in Miyagi Prefecture, layering the brightness of citrus with a hint of sansho for a distinctive cup.

Belgian White is generally a style flavored with orange peel and coriander, but this release makes use of the thick peel of yuzu, creating a finish that feels even more rooted in local character. In the official post, it is described as a beer with a "slightly Japanese" feel, suggesting that it was designed with compatibility with Japanese cuisine in mind.

Forest Brewing is a brewery in Kawasaki Town, where meltwater from the Zao mountain range flows, and it produces "craft beer made with firewood," drawing on a background in firewood manufacturing. It began brewing in May 2023 and has offered a wide range of beers, including German and American styles. This limited release using local ingredients also fits into that ongoing connection with the region.

The official post suggests a wide range of pairings, including fries, paella, spring vegetable tempura, seared bonito, and clams steamed in sake. The flavor, which layers yuzu aroma onto a light white beer, seems well suited as a food-friendly drink.
