Did you know about "DONZO Brewing" on Shinmachi Shopping Street, near the approach to Konpira-san? It's a microbrewery renovated from a former pottery shop.
Mugi
Wait, a pottery shop turned into a beer factory!? That's instantly interesting!

The origin of the name is great too. Nearby there is a place called "Donzoro," the former residence site of Bakumatsu-era patriot Kusagi Enseki, where young patriots used to gather and talk about a new era. The brewery took the name "Donzo" from that.
Mugi
Wow! Craft beer with Bakumatsu romance woven into it feels so intense...

The signature beer, "Kotohira Kölsch," has an elegant aroma reminiscent of white wine and a light, crisp finish typical of the Kölsch style. They also have "Kotohira IPA," plus local-ingredient beers like "Shingu Tea Ale" and "Black Fig Ale."
Mugi
A black fig beer!? What is that? I want to try it! The tea beer sounds intriguing too.

What's more, they reuse the spent grain from brewing as an ingredient for bread and as fertilizer. They also run a project with local children to grow wheat and use it as a beer ingredient.
Mugi
Beer-making with the whole community... That basically means the whole town of Kotohira is like one big brewery.
Hop Bro
They also release limited seasonal brews using citrus, like the "Fully-Ripened Shiranui IPA," and it pairs perfectly with the "Donzo Dog" made with sausages from a local butcher. Every visit brings a different taste.

Craft beer after visiting Konpira-san sounds amazing! I definitely want to stop by!
