Tegamisha Brewery

There’s an amazing place in Chofu where a bookstore and a brewery are under one roof. It’s Tegamisha Brewery. Do you know it?

It’s run by a company called Tegamisha, which is known for cafes and craft events. The founder, Isao Kitajima, is a huge beer fan, and the staff are packed with beer lovers too. They opened a beer pub in 2020, got their brewing license in 2023, and started brewing in-house.

What’s even better is that the brewer, Takeo Fujino, was Kitajima’s junior high school classmate. He honed his skills while training at Izumi Brewery and several other breweries. They’re both huge Beatles fans, so the in-store BGM is Beatles all the way through, and the walls are decorated with Fujino’s collection of LP record jackets.

And the name of their in-house IPA is “In My Life.” It comes from a Beatles classic. Their flagship pale ale has citrusy flavors and restrained bitterness, so it’s crisp and refreshing. Their golden bitter ale is the kind that really lets you enjoy the malt character.

Exactly. It’s TEGAMISHA BOOKSTORE, a shop curated by Tegamisha with books, paper goods, and stationery. The concept is a “night bookstore” that opens in the evening, so you can pick out books with a beer in hand.

The sign saying “HAVE A BEERTIFUL DAY” is such a Tegamisha-style playful touch too. They also hold sausage-and-beer festivals regularly, and they’ve already made it to vol. 15. It’s a place packed with everything people love: books, goods, the Beatles, and beer.
