Baeren Brewery Releases Rauchbock “Onmen Bräu” Inspired by Morioka Warm Noodles
Baeren Brewery in Iwate has released a new beer, “Onmen Bräu.” It is a rich lager in the rauchbock style, brewed with traditional coolship equipment, combining Morioka’s winter-rooted warm noodle culture with the smoked beer culture that originated in Bamberg, Germany.
Baeren Brewery (Iwate) has announced a new beer, “Onmen Bräu (ONMEN BRÄU).” The concept fuses “Morioka onmen,” a part of Morioka’s food culture, with “Rauch,” the smoked beer that originated in Bamberg, Germany. It expresses these two cultures, both shaped by cold weather and fire, as a single beer.
Product Features
The style is rauchbock. Its core is the toasty aroma derived from smoked malt, a robust body at 7.5% ABV, and a gentle aroma from 100% German hops. In addition, 65% of the ingredients are German rauch malt (smoked malt). The result is a full-bodied lager suited to the cold season.
Brewing That Feels Like Baeren
At the heart of this product is the company’s traditional “coolship” (wort cooling vessel). Baeren Brewery is known as the only brewery in Japan that owns this copper coolship. Brewing is limited to “the coldest time of year in Morioka,” and the wort is naturally cooled using the winter air outside. This classic approach, which depends on seasonality and labor that modern equipment cannot easily replace, supports the distinctive character of the company’s brewing.

Onmen Bräu is sold at the factory direct shop, Baeren’s official web shop, and the Rakuten shop. Please note that the web shop does not offer single-bottle sales; it is available only as part of sets.
