Baeren Brewery Releases 100% Japanese-Ingredient Fresh Hop Lager
Baeren Brewery has announced “Tsunagu Beer Fresh Hop 2026,” a limited lager brewed with barley from Shiwa and freshly harvested hops from Shizukuishi, both in Iwate. The beer uses fresh, undried hops during brewing.
Baeren Brewery, based in Morioka, Iwate, has introduced “Baeren Tsunagu Beer Fresh Hop 2026,” a limited beer made entirely with Japanese ingredients. It is the third release in the brewery’s limited Tsunagu Beer series, which highlights local agricultural products and brewing connections.
The beer uses barley grown in Shiwa and freshly picked hops from Shizukuishi. Unlike conventional brewing, which generally uses dried hops, this lager incorporates the hops before they are dried. That approach preserves the fresh, vivid character of hops immediately after harvest, but it also requires rapid transport and brewing, limiting the amount that can be produced.
According to Baeren, the beer offers a fresh green hop aroma when poured, followed by a clean, light-bodied drinking experience and a pleasant finish. Its character reflects the short harvest season and the freshness of Iwate-grown hops.
Baeren Brewery is known for producing traditional-style beers in Morioka while also developing beers that showcase regional ingredients. The Tsunagu Beer project connects growers, brewers, and drinkers through a seasonal release. A portion of the product’s sales will also be donated to the Red Feather Community Chest.
The beer is being offered through Baeren’s official online shop and Rakuten shop, while release timing and sales channels may vary by retailer. Drinkers interested in experiencing fresh-hop character should check each retailer’s availability.
