The brewery Beer Cafe Vertere in Okutama Town, Nishitama District, Tokyo, has introduced its new beer, "Galanthus." True to the brewery's style of crafting beer in a place close to Okutama's nature, this release is also built around a clear design for aroma and bitterness.

Its style is Cascadian Dark Ale. Alcohol content is 7.0%, and IBU is 54. The malt bill uses Pilsner, Carared, Carafa 3 SP, and the hops are Citra, Cascade, Amarillo, Centennial, US Tettnanger. While using the same amount of hops as an IPA, the recipe is designed to emphasize fruitiness, with aromas and flavors said to evoke orange candy, raisins, apricot, and caramel.

The mouthfeel is dry and brisk. Even so, the bitterness remains firmly present, leading to a finish with a lingering aftertaste like orange peel. Rather than leaning too heavily into the weighty impression of dark malts, the beer is defined by the character of its hops. From its base in Okutama, Vertere continues to release beers with distinct personalities, and this "Galanthus" is a strong example of that ongoing approach.
