Far Yeast Brewing released a limited beer, Far Yeast Sumomo Salty Sour, on August 5. The beer is brewed with Oishi Wase plums from Kikushima Seiyodo Higashi Branch, a plum grower in Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture.
The beer is labeled Fruited Gose With Sumomo. Gose is a traditional German style defined by salt and acidity, and the brewery says it carefully controlled two yeasts to keep the beer highly drinkable. The stated specs are ABV 4.5%, IBU 10, with Saaz hops.
According to the tasting note, the beer opens with the sweet-and-tart aroma of freshly picked plums. On the palate, juicy fruit character meets a crisp salty edge, making it a straightforward fit for hot weather drinking.
Far Yeast Brewing is based in Kosuge Village, Yamanashi, where it also operates its Genryu Brewery. The company moved its headquarters to the village in 2020 and has continued to build beers around local ingredients and local producers. This release follows that same approach.
