Faló Brewing, based in Yamamoto, Miyagi, began the sequential release of its new beer, Kaeru, on September 14, 2026.

The beer uses fig leaves grown at Ohisama Mura Farm in Yamamoto as an adjunct ingredient. By incorporating leaves that previously had limited use, Faló Brewing aims to create new value from local agricultural resources while expressing the connection between the brewery and regional producers.

The name “Kaeru” carries two meanings. It refers to “changing” the value of something once considered unusable, while also suggesting that nature’s gifts can transform and “return” to the community in a new form. The name reflects Faló Brewing’s focus on brewing with local ingredients and building relationships with producers.

Kaeru has an alcohol content of 5.5%. It is available in 350ml cans, as well as 10- to 15-liter kegs for commercial use. All formats require refrigeration. Distribution is planned for beer bars, craft beer shops, and liquor retailers across Japan, with local sales in Yamamoto expected at locations including Yume Ichigo no Sato.

Faló Brewing operates in Yamamoto’s former Sakamoto Junior High School, which closed in 2021 and was renovated into a brewery. The name Faló means “bonfire” in Italian, reflecting the idea of creating a place where people gather, talk, and enjoy beer together. Founder and head brewer Naru Handa has brewing experience in Japan and Australia, including work at Sailor’s Grave Brewing.

By turning an agricultural by-product into beer, Kaeru presents a clear example of Faló Brewing’s locally inspired approach. It is a release that connects Yamamoto’s farming community, the brewery’s creative brewing philosophy, and the possibility of building a more circular local food and beverage culture.
