Nara Brewing, a craft brewery based in Nara City, has released its new beer, “INNER MOUNTING FLAME.” The beer is an Irish Red Ale, a style known for its reddish color, gentle roast character, and smooth drinkability. Although the style is less common in Japan, it offers a malt-forward alternative to hop-driven beers.

Following the tradition of the style, Nara Brewing uses roasted barley in the recipe. A combination of malts builds layered malt depth while keeping the beer approachable at 4.5% ABV. The aroma recalls freshly baked biscuits, followed by rounded malt sweetness and flavors reminiscent of raisins and nuts. A subtle roast note from the roasted barley gives the finish definition without becoming heavy.

As the beer warms, the roast character gradually becomes more pronounced. East Kent Golding hops from the United Kingdom add a restrained earthy and floral note to the finish. With an IBU of 19, the beer emphasizes malt flavor and balance rather than pronounced bitterness.

The 350ml cans are nitrogenated. Nara Brewing recommends shaking the can before pouring to create a creamy head and a smoother mouthfeel. Keg shipments began at beer bars and restaurants in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Kyoto, Osaka, and other areas. Cans are also available through selected bottle shops and restaurants, though availability and draft openings vary by location.

Nara Brewing has developed beers across a broad range of styles, including its American-Belgo-Style Ale “FUNCTION” and Micro Porter “LIGHTHOUSE.” “INNER MOUNTING FLAME” takes a quieter approach, highlighting malt aroma, gentle roast, and a lingering finish. It should pair well with food or a slow evening pour. The brewery’s online store is scheduled to begin sales at noon on November 13.
