Nara Brewing, a craft brewery based in Nara City, has released “BLIPPO,” a Märzen created with reading in mind. The beer is the sixth-year offering in the brewery’s ALE&BOOKS&CIDER project, which proposes beer pairings for the autumn reading season.

Märzen is known for its expressive malt character and smooth, rounded drinking experience. According to Nara Brewing, BLIPPO opens with aromas reminiscent of honey and toasted bread. On the palate, rich malt sweetness spreads across the tongue, while an elegant hop bitterness provides definition and keeps the finish crisp.

ALE&BOOKS&CIDER is a Nara Brewing initiative focused on pairing beer with books. Rather than overwhelming the reader with intense flavors, BLIPPO is built around a steady malt profile suited to a quiet, unhurried drinking session. Enjoying the beer slowly as it warms may reveal further changes in its aroma and sweetness, making it a natural companion for a long autumn evening with a novel.

The first draft shipments include Himalaya Table in Chiyoda, TOWA in Taito, and Beer Cafe Bammkan in Suginami, Tokyo; CraftBeerDiveFuta’s in Kanazawa; Tir na nÓg in Hamamatsu; TRUNK COFFEE & CRAFT BEER in Nagoya; Bungalow in Kyoto; umbrella RiB in Osaka; Torikago in Takamatsu; and Nara Ryori mikado in Nara. Cans have also been shipped to retailers and restaurants across Japan. Availability and tapping dates vary by location, so customers should contact venues directly before visiting.

BLIPPO will be available through Nara Brewing’s online store from noon on November 6. With its focus on malt depth, balance, and a relaxed drinking pace, the new Märzen offers another way to enjoy Nara Brewing’s broad range of seasonal and collaborative beers—this time with a book close at hand.
