MAHOWBREW Announces Huginn #3, a Czech Pale Lager with Floor Malt
Naha-based MAHOWBREW has announced Huginn #3, the third batch of its Czech Pale Lager. Brewed with floor-malted Bohemian Pilsner malt for the first time and finished with Saaz T45 pellets, the 4.0% ABV lager offers a balanced malt profile, floral hop aroma, and a clean finish.
MAHOWBREW, a craft brewery based in Tsuboya, Naha, Okinawa, has announced Huginn #3, the third batch in its Huginn series.
The beer is brewed in the Czech Pale Lager style, with an ABV of 4.0%, 43 IBU, a final gravity of 1.014, and an SRM of 6. Its fermentables include floor-malted Bohemian Pilsner malt, Vienna malt, Carapils, and Melanoidin. Saaz and Saaz T45 hops are used alongside WLP802 yeast.
For this batch, MAHOWBREW used floor malt for the first time. The brewery says the malt contributes a gentle malt character, complemented by rounded flavors reminiscent of honey and fresh bread. Despite its moderate alcohol content, the beer is designed to retain a satisfying level of body.
The lager is also described as clear and pure in character. Fermentation with yeast from southern Czechia supports the beer’s clean profile, while Saaz hops add a floral aroma that enhances the malt without overpowering it. The finish is crisp and refreshing.
The third batch introduces Saaz T45 pellets in addition to conventional Saaz hops. This change adds further depth to the hop aroma and gives Huginn #3 a distinct expression compared with earlier batches.
MAHOWBREW operates in Tsuboya, an area known as the birthplace of Okinawan pottery, or yachimun. The brewery obtained its alcohol manufacturing license in June 2024 and aims to carry the spirit of craftsmanship from Tsuboya across Okinawa, Japan, and beyond. Huginn #3 brings that approach to a classic lager format, combining delicate malt richness with floral hop character and an easy-drinking finish.
