Built on seven malts

Listed as Batch Number 0089, this beer is a Barley Wine brewed with Maris Otter, Red X, Carapils, Caramunich Type 2, Melanoidin, Crystal 150, and Chocolate Malt. Mahow Brew also used a double-mash process to develop a fuller body and deeper malt character.

The beer comes in at 12.0% ABV, 28 IBU, FG 1.037, and SRM 37. Northern Brewer provides the hop addition, while US-05 was used as the yeast. With bitterness kept moderate, the recipe places the focus on malt richness and depth.

Dark fruit, caramel, and molasses

According to the brewery, the beer layers concentrated fruit notes reminiscent of raisins and dark fruit with rich impressions of nuts, molasses, and caramel. The overlapping malt characters are intended to reveal different nuances from sip to sip.

This is a beer to approach slowly. As it warms, its complex flavors should open up, making it well suited to leisurely drinking after a meal or alongside an extended conversation. Its high alcohol content, substantial body, and layered malt profile all point toward a measured serving rather than a quick pour.

From Naha’s Tsuboya district
