RepuBrew Numazu releases collaboration IPA on the 27th to pair with mekikari karaage
RepuBrew Numazu in Numazu, Shizuoka, will begin serving "THUNDERSTRUCK IPA," a collaboration beer with Kobe's Open Air Brewing, from May 27 to go with this week’s special, "mekikari karaage." It is a West Coast IPA with sansho added, making it an easy beer to pair with food.
RepuBrew Numazu has rolled out a new pairing idea matched to its weekly dish special. This time, the star is "mekikari karaage." In the post, mekikari is introduced as a deep-sea fish known in Numazu as "torobocchi," one that is easy to eat whole and whose mildly bitter innards add an accent.
The beer released to go with this dish is the collaboration beer "THUNDERSTRUCK IPA" with Kobe's Open Air Brewing. The new release arrives on May 27, and its style is West Coast IPA. By adding sansho, the beer is designed so the floral aroma from the hops and the fresh, tingling spice of the sansho overlap.
RepuBrew is a brewery based in Numazu, Shizuoka, that not only makes beer but also operates its own restaurants. Its official site features "Eki-mae Beer Factory RepuBrew Numazu" and "Slider House 24Tap RepuBrew Mishima," and that close distance between brewing and serving is one of its defining traits. This latest post is another example of how it specifically shows what to pair with beer, right there on site.
Mekikari karaage is appealing for the balance between the savory crispness of the batter and the richness of the fish, and pairing it with an IPA that has bitterness and citrus character lets you enjoy the dish while lightly refreshing the palate. With local ingredients, collaboration between breweries, and compatibility with the food all folded in, it is a very RepuBrew-style announcement.
