Hiroshima Neibari Brewing has begun opening its new beer, "Smoked Hiroshima Oyster Common." In a post, the brewery introduced the use of oyster extract made by Kusuhara Bincan Kogyo, using oysters from Hiroshima Prefecture, as a supplementary ingredient on a base of pilsner malt and smoked malt.
The defining feature of this beer is that it does not push a strong smoky character, but instead achieves both a roasted-oyster-like aroma and a light, easy-drinking finish. While incorporating the richness of oyster flavor, it is designed not to feel too heavy, making it easy to enjoy alongside food. The post presents it as a beer with a good balance of aroma and umami that goes down smoothly.
Suggested pairings include oysters preserved in oil, oyster gratin, and other Hiroshima oyster dishes. By matching it with dishes that carry the taste of the sea, the beer's smokiness and oyster character connect naturally. It captures the identity of Hiroshima, a place well known as a producer of oysters, in a single glass.
Hiroshima Neibari Brewing is located in Otemachi, Naka Ward, Hiroshima City, near Hondori and on the east side of Peace Memorial Park. On its official website, it says that it aims to make beers that people will want to drink again and again using ingredients from Hiroshima Prefecture, showing a strong commitment to regional character in its brewing. It also has an attached brewpub and izakaya, "Craftbeer to Sumibi Harebare," where visitors can enjoy beer while looking at the brewing equipment, making it appealing as a space where the brewery and dining are integrated.
In this post, the current tap lineup was also announced, with the new beer added alongside original beers and guest beers. As a beer that layers Hiroshima ingredients with the brewery's personality, it is one to enjoy with local cuisine.
