A summer sour ale

Hiroshima Neighborly Brewing has introduced SUIKA SOUR Suzune, a sour ale brewed with watermelon puree. The beer comes in at 4.5% ABV and uses malt, watermelon puree, sugar, salt, hops, and carrageenan, with the recipe built around watermelon-like fruit character and crisp acidity.

According to the brewery's description, the aroma combines a straightforward watermelon note with a subtle green, melon-like edge. Rather than pushing sweetness, the beer leans into a light body and a clean, bright profile. A touch of salt is used to lift the umami and round out the finish, making it the kind of sour ale that fits hot weather and easy drinking occasions.

Hiroshima Neighborly Brewing is based in the Otemachi area of central Hiroshima, near Hondori. The brewery started operations in 2020 and has positioned itself around using as much local Hiroshima-grown produce as possible while making beers people want to return to again and again. Seasonal releases with regional ingredients have been part of that approach, and this watermelon sour ale fits neatly into that line of beers.
