Shiga Kogen Beer has released Yama-Bushi 5 / Fresh Hop Saison 750ml, brewed with estate-grown Cascade hops harvested on the day of brewing. It is the first new non-barrel-aged Yama-Bushi release in 12 years and the finale of this season’s fresh-hop series.
A new Yama-Bushi release after 12 years
Shiga Kogen Beer, based in Yamanouchi, Nagano, has released Yama-Bushi 5 / Fresh Hop Saison 750ml. It is the first new numbered release in the non-barrel-aged Yama-Bushi series since Yama-Bushi 4 appeared 12 years ago.
The beer is positioned as the final release in this season’s fresh-hop series. Estate-grown Cascade hops were harvested on the brew day and used fresh in generous quantities. Because the hops move directly from harvest to the brewhouse without being dried or pelletized, the beer focuses on the seasonal character of freshly picked hops.
A saison built around estate-grown Cascade
The base style is saison. Its character comes from the meeting of farmhouse-inspired fermentation and hops cultivated by the brewery itself. Fresh hops are highly sensitive to time after harvest, so the connection between cultivation, harvesting, and brewing is central to the beer’s identity.
Shiga Kogen Beer is the beer brand of Tamamura-Honten, based in Yamanouchi, Nagano. The brewery produces a broad range of beers, from established releases to limited and experimental brews, while incorporating ingredients grown and harvested by the team. The Yama-Bushi project was inspired by Belgian beer but developed with an aim to pursue an original Japanese expression rooted in the local mountain region.
Yama-Bushi 5 / Fresh Hop Saison is packaged in a 750ml bottle. As both a long-awaited numbered release and the finale of the current fresh-hop series, it will appeal to drinkers interested in saison, estate-grown hops, and the seasonal brewing of Shiga Kogen Beer.
