A session pale ale centered on the aroma of aonori

Derailleur Brew Works has released a new beer, "My Little LaveR (sleeping Diamond on the S.E.A)", lavishly made with Shimanto-grown suji aonori. The style is session pale ale, with an ABV of 4.5% and an IBU of 20. It is designed to be light and easy to drink while still letting the character of the ingredients come through clearly.

The defining feature of this beer is that it deliberately makes use of DMS, a fragrance compound derived from aonori. Rather than treating what is usually considered an off-flavor as a flaw, it flips that quality into a seaside aroma. Pacific Jade and Pacifica hops add clean bitterness and a bright, jasmine-like fragrance. The result is a beer that carries aromas reminiscent of a sea breeze and a refreshing aftertaste.

Story-driven beer from Nishinari

Derailleur Brew Works is a brewery in Osaka's Nishinari Ward that has been brewing craft beer since 2018. It has released many distinctive beers, including Nishinari Riot Ale, and its official website also promotes "beer making unconstrained by convention." This new release is another beer that clearly reflects that attitude.

The product description comes with a distinctive story world, but the flavor at its core is straightforward. Aonori, hops, and the light body of the session style. Together, they create a beer that pairs easily with meals. It is also interesting as a suggestion to enjoy a beer with seaside aromas at the everyday dinner table.

As a new release that combines Derailleur Brew Works' way of thinking with the playful spirit of a Nishinari brewery, it is one to check out if you're curious.
