Overview

Far Yeast Brewing released a limited beer, Far Yeast Sumomo Salty Sour, on August 5, 2026. The beer uses Oishi Wase plums grown by Kikushima Seiyodo Higashishiten in Fuefuki, Yamanashi. Distribution will roll out through the brewery's online store, liquor retailers, restaurants, and beer bars, with shipping starting on August 6.

Built as a fruited gose

The beer is styled as a Fruited Gose With Sumomo. It comes in at 4.5% ABV and 10 IBU, pairing the bright, refreshing character of a gose with the juicy fruit profile of ripe Oishi Wase plums. The brewery controlled two yeast strains to balance the plum's juiciness with the beer's salt character. Saaz hops are used, and the beer is available in 350 ml cans and 15 L kegs.

A Yamanashi-focused brewery project

Based in Kosuge Village, Yamanashi, Far Yeast Brewing has long worked under its Brewed with Yamanashi initiative to showcase local agricultural ingredients. Previous releases have featured peaches, apricots, and grapes, and this plum beer continues that line. Oishi Wase is known for its soft flesh and a flavor that moves from a fresh, sweet-tart skin note into a gentler, juicy finish. The result is a beer that should suit warm-weather drinking and food pairing alike.
