Far Yeast Brewing has announced Spacia X Blonde 1st Car Edition 3rd, the third beer created in collaboration with Tobu Railway’s Spacia X limited express. Draft service will begin progressively on September 21 at GOEN CAFÉ SPACIA X, the café counter in Car 1. From September 29, cans and kegs will be available in limited quantities at Far Yeast Tokyo in Gotanda, the brewery’s online store, and selected retailers.
A golden ale connecting Tochigi and Yamanashi
The beer is part of the Cross Beer Project, an initiative through which Tobu Railway works with breweries across Japan to create beers for Spacia X. The recipe combines barley malt and hops from Tochigi, along the railway’s route, with hops from Yamanashi, where Far Yeast Brewing is based. The result is a golden ale designed to highlight the character of its local ingredients.
For the third edition, hops grown by Nikko Hop Farm in Tochigi are used for the first time in the series. The hop varieties are Chinook, Cascade, AlphAroma, and Vista. The beer has an alcohol content of 5.0% and is brewed with malt, hops, and sugar.
A beer made for the journey
Spacia X debuted in 2023 and connects Asakusa with the Nikko and Kinugawa areas. Its Car 1 café, GOEN CAFÉ SPACIA X, features four draft towers, where beers developed with breweries from across Japan appear on a rotating basis.
The new edition offers a taste of the railway journey and its surrounding regions in one glass. While the draft version is designed for onboard enjoyment, the limited canned release makes it possible to revisit the beer after the trip. Based in Kosuge Village, Yamanashi, Far Yeast Brewing continues to explore how local ingredients and collaborative brewing can connect different communities.
