A seasonal porter for winter
OH!LA!HO BEER will release Bière de Raiden Seasonal Beer: Winter Porter in limited quantities on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
The Bière de Raiden series presents beer styles suited to each season. The winter edition follows the brewery’s concept of creating a deep beer to be enjoyed slowly on cold days, with a porter designed for a comforting winter refreshment.
Roasted malt at the center
In addition to the base malt, the beer uses two types of roasted malt to create its deep color. The brewery describes aromas reminiscent of rich cocoa and rum raisin. It is a porter with 5% ABV and 25 IBU, emphasizing roasted malt character and depth rather than aggressive bitterness.
OH!LA!HO BEER suggests pairing the beer with beef stroganoff, quattro formaggi, or gâteau au chocolat. These pairings highlight its compatibility with richly flavored meat dishes, cheese, and chocolate desserts. The beer has a stated shelf life of eight months from production and may be stored at room temperature.
A brewery rooted in Tomi, Nagano
OH!LA!HO BEER was founded in Tomi, Nagano Prefecture, in 1996. The name “Olahō” means “we” in the local dialect. The brewery began as part of a regional revitalization effort and has continued to explore a broad range of beer styles, including ale, which was still relatively unfamiliar in Japan when the brewery started.
The brewery also grows its own hops, an initiative it began in 2010, taking advantage of Tomi’s long hours of sunlight, low rainfall, and well-drained soil. The Winter Porter reflects the brewery’s seasonal approach and its focus on bringing out the character of each ingredient in a beer suited to the colder months.
