YUMEGAOKA SUNDAY BREWING introduced a new beer on Instagram: "Kanagawa Yuzu Porter." True to the brewery, which is located inside Yumegaoka Soratos in Izumi Ward, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, the beer stands out for its use of locally rooted ingredients.
The post says the porter is flavored with yuzu from Kanagawa Prefecture and has an alcohol content of 5.5% with an IBU of 34. Porter is known for the roasty aroma and depth that come from roasted malt, and by layering in the citrus fragrance of yuzu, the beer appears designed to emphasize both the fuller body and the lighter feel associated with dark beers.
YUMEGAOKA SUNDAY BREWING opened in 2024 as a craft beer brewery making beer in the Yumegaoka area. Another feature is that guests can enjoy freshly brewed beer made on-site at the adjoining restaurant, and up to 10 varieties can be tasted at once. By making use of local ingredients and ties with makers in the area, the brewery is broadening the range of its beers.
This "Kanagawa Yuzu Porter" is a beer that clearly reflects that direction. Unlike hoppy beers with a strong aromatic punch, it is the kind of beer that centers its flavor on malt while rounding out the impression with aroma derived from the peel, making it easy to pair with meals. It deserves attention as a beer brewed in Yumegaoka and enjoyed together with local ingredients.
