Sankt Gallen Brewery in Atsugi, Kanagawa, is moving ahead with brewing its seasonal fruit beer 'Shonan Gold.' Its official Instagram introduced the day as one in which bottling and shipping were completed, and said that at some stores it would be on shelves the next day, with draft beer also expected to be tapped.

'Shonan Gold' is a beer made with an orange that Kanagawa Prefecture spent 12 years developing. According to Sankt Gallen's official website, it uses not only the juice but the peel and flesh as well, and is paired with citrusy aroma hops so that the orange impression remains strong from the moment it is poured through the lingering finish after drinking.

Sankt Gallen is a brewery known as the 'original local beer shop,' having continued brewing since before craft beer became common in Japan. Since its founding, it has focused on ale rather than lager, and has produced many seasonal beers that make use of fruit and spices. Among them, 'Shonan Gold' is one of the labels many fans look forward to every spring and summer.

The product specifications are 330 ml and 5% alcohol by volume. The style is fruit beer, and under Japanese labeling it is classified as happoshu, but the flavor is centered on beer-like aroma and body. As a limited release that makes use of local Kanagawa ingredients, it is a beer well suited to the coming season.
