The Joetsu, Niigata-based Gangi Brewing has launched a collaboration beer with Echigo Yakuso's craft gin brand, "THE HERBALIST YASO": "HERBER HARBOR". According to information posted on My Beer, the style is Belgian White / Belgian Wit w/Botanical, with an alcohol content of 4.5% and an IBU of 4.7. It was brewed as part of a limited series.

What makes this beer distinctive is that it incorporates some of the botanicals used in YASO's signature gin, "THE HERBALIST YASO GIN Extra Herb." The brew uses juniper berries, cedar, fir, and bergamot, creating a design that layers conifer-like aromatics and gentle fruitiness over the crisp drinkability of a wheat beer. It is a collaboration that strongly reflects the idea of translating the world of gin into craft beer.

Gangi Brewing began brewing in August 2023. Located within walking distance of Joetsu-Myoko Station, the brewery's name comes from gangi-zukuri, a traditional local architectural style. Its aim is for people to connect through beer like the sheltered gangi arcades themselves, and that background carries directly into this collaboration as well. By teaming up with fellow Joetsu-based company Echigo Yakuso, the brewery is expressing the character of the region from a different angle.

Echigo Yakuso, the collaboration partner, also revealed that it visited the brewery and took part from the brewing stage. In this limited release, both sides' strengths are reflected in the way the ingredients' aromas are expressed in beer. For craft beer fans, it is the kind of release that makes you want to slowly explore its layered aromas. As a new glass born from a Joetsu brewery, it is one to watch for future developments.
