Daisen City's first craft brewery, Akita Brewing Company, is still a new rookie, but it's pretty interesting.
Mugi
Daisen City is where the Omagari fireworks are, right? So they made craft beer there!
Hop Bro
It's a 3-minute walk from the east exit of Omagari Station. They center their lineup on Seattle-style hoppy beer, bringing West Coast American craft beer culture to Akita.
Mugi
Seattle style!? That's unexpected in Akita!
Hop Bro
Their standard "Heba Ale" is great. It's a blonde ale at 4%, and the name comes from the Akita dialect "heba" meaning "see ya." It means an easy-drinking beer. The sense of naming beer in Akita dialect is great, isn't it?
Mugi
Wow, "Heba Ale" is cute! A beer name in the Akita dialect feels really friendly.
Hop Bro
They also make "Seseragi Summer Ale," a pale ale brewed in the SMaSH style with just one malt and one hop variety, and it has a refreshing citrus character. It's 5.5%. "Anchors Team" is a California Common amber with malt aromas that bring to mind chocolate at 5.1%.
Mugi
They're going all out with different styles. Have they released anything new lately?
Hop Bro
"momomo Hazy IPA" is a series that develops the popular "Momo SMaSH" into a Hazy-style beer. They also regularly hold an event called "Chivicco's Night," a food collaboration that promotes beer and food pairings.
Mugi
They even have a Hazy IPA! The food events sound fun too!
Hop Bro
Right now they're open only from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays, mainly for draft sales by volume. They're preparing a taproom too, so once that's finished it should get even livelier. Being close to the station is also a big plus, since you can stop by on the way to the fireworks festival.
