The Kada brewery of Wakayama Brewery has an amazing location.
Mugi
Kada? What kind of place is it in?
Hop Bro
If you take the Nankai Kada Line and get off at Kada Station, you walk for about 10 minutes through charming streets that feel like a Showa-era fishing village, and the front of the brewery is already a beach.
Mugi
What, you can drink beer right in front of the sea!?
Hop Bro
There's a taproom attached, so you can drink a fresh pour from the tap while looking out over the Kii Channel. The fact that you can get there by train means you can drink without a care, too.
Mugi
That's amazing... What kind of beer can you drink there?
Hop Bro
At the Kada brewery, they make pale ale, IPA, yuzu ale, and Hazy IPA. The origin story of the yuzu ale is especially interesting: they were asked by the head chef of a Japanese restaurant in Macau to make a beer that would pair with food, and it was completed after repeated feedback sessions.
Mugi
A request from Macau!? It's amazing that brewers in Wakayama were commissioned by a chef overseas.
Hop Bro
President Yoshida places the highest importance on 'harmony with food.' What's more, while studying in the Graduate School of Tourism Sciences at Wakayama University, he's also looking ahead to revitalizing the entire Kada area.
Mugi
So he's thinking not just about brewing, but about town development too...
Hop Bro
Apparently he's also envisioning an overnight stay, a brewing experience the next morning, and then having the beer you made delivered to you a month later.
Mugi
I definitely want to do that! Making your own beer in a seaside fishing town would be the best travel memory ever.
