Osaka Beer Brewery

Do you know Osaka Beer Brewery? It's a brewery in Sonezaki, right in the middle of Umeda.

It's attached to their directly operated shop, "Beer and Lamb," and because it's all glass, you can see the brewing tanks clearly from the street. It's a luxurious spot where you can enjoy freshly brewed beer with lamb dishes.

Their flagship beer is a Juicy IPA called "Shiran kedo." It uses El Dorado, Simcoe, and Citra hops, so it bursts with tropical aroma, yet the mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing.

It's not just the name that's memorable; it's the real deal, having won the Grand Prix at the Japan Food Selection. And because everything is unfiltered, it contains live yeast, which gives the flavor real depth.

Names like "Umeda Lost Child," "Smooth Talker," and "Super Bitter One" are all in Osaka dialect, and that's what makes them so great. The brewing team is interesting too: head brewer Kikku-san is a research-minded type who reads brewing literature in English and German. Another brewer, Andrew, is from the Bahamas in the Caribbean. He built up experience at breweries there before falling in love with Japan and moving here.

Their concept is "craft beer made in Osaka for Osaka," and they aim for flavors that pair well with food, with individuality that doesn't overpower. I like how they deliberately stick to the local area.
