There’s a brewery in the Gamo 4-chome area, commonly called "Gamoyon," that was renovated from an old row house. It’s Gamoyon Brewery, which opened in August 2022.

A brewery in a renovated row house! That already sounds like it has a great atmosphere!

Gamo 4-chome is actually an area where old-house renovation projects are thriving, and this brewery was born out of that trend. Its biggest distinguishing feature is that it’s operated by the NPO Sanzenkai and serves as a workplace support site for people with disabilities.
Mugi
Wait, an NPO makes craft beer?

Under Sanzenkai director Tadayoshi Kami, the facility users handle tank cleaning, brewing work, bottling, label application, and even serving. The fully barrier-free store design is part of that effort too. The beer plays a role in connecting welfare and the local community.

Amazing... making beer is a job, and it also leads to social participation. So, how does the beer taste?
Hop Bro
There are six kinds. "Gamoyon Ale" is a clear golden golden ale. "Amber Ale" is a reddish-brown beer with a toasty aroma and gentle sweetness. "Black Ale" has a coffee-like aroma. "Belgian White" uses orange peel and coriander seed. Then there are "Pilsner" and "IPA." Each brew is only about 300 liters per batch, or about 600 500 ml cans, so it’s a small-scale operation where a lot of care goes into every detail.

Belgian White with orange peel and coriander! That’s the kind I’d want to drink in summer!

And there’s more: they grow hops they cultivate themselves in the field behind the restaurant, and in seasonal limited runs, "hop tempura" appears on the menu. A brewery where you can eat the beer ingredients as tempura is pretty rare, right? Even the karaage uses spent malt in the batter, so they don’t waste the byproducts either.
Mugi
What! I want to try the hop tempura! And you can see the brewing tanks from the counter too, right?
Hop Bro
Exactly. Enjoying a drink while looking at the tanks in the atmosphere of the row house is exceptional. It’s a place that truly embodies the idea of "connecting people through beer."
