Torii-do Brewing

Torii-do Brewing is Kanuma City's first craft beer brewery. It's still a new brewery, but it's getting a lot of attention.

That's right. But the concept had been in the works for five years. The owner's plan had been delayed by COVID, and then two passionate brewers and an experienced brewing consultant happened to meet, and it finally came to life.

He's the person behind Nikko Coffee, a popular local cafe. He's good at promoting local culture, and this time he's trying to share Kanuma's appeal through beer. The location is also right in front of Tobu Shin-Kanuma Station, just a one-minute walk away.

And the beer lineup has great taste too. 'THE HAWK' is a hazy IPA with a smooth mouthfeel, 'Irei' is a West Coast IPA with hoppy fruit aromas, and 'Karigane' is a black IPA made with hojicha tea.

The concept is to use local ingredients as adjuncts to create a taste you can only get here. And the attached restaurant serves menu items centered on 'Kanuma shumai,' so it's a bold pairing of shumai and craft beer.

It is. Kanuma is being promoted as a shumai city. The brewery's interior is glass-walled, so it's a brewpub where you can watch the brewing process while eating shumai. They'll also make their first appearance at an Utsunomiya event in April, and they're also slated to appear at the Tochigi Beer Festa.
