Nomcraft Brewing Releases NOMCLASSIC Porter, a New Rich Black Beer
Nomcraft Brewing in Aridagawa, Wakayama introduced NOMCLASSIC Porter on June 18. Built on Maris Otter and layered with chocolate malt and roast barley, the new porter is designed to deliver roasted depth while staying easy to drink.
Nomcraft Brewing, based in Aridagawa, Wakayama, announced its latest NOMCLASSIC release, NOMCLASSIC Porter, on June 18. The brewery operates from a renovated former nursery school and has been building its identity around craft beer and local community-making, which makes this new black beer feel very much in character.
The recipe starts with Maris Otter and adds generous amounts of chocolate malt and roast barley. According to the post, the beer brings aromas of chocolate and coffee, while a subtle raisin-like sweetness from Special B adds extra depth. It is listed at 6% ABV, 40 IBU, and 2.6 volumes of CO2, suggesting a full-bodied beer that still aims to remain highly drinkable.
In the brewer's note, Mark says the goal was to balance the classic roasted character of a porter with smooth drinkability. That approach is reflected in the ingredient list: chocolate malt and roast barley provide the structure, while Special B contributes a layered malt sweetness that keeps the beer from feeling one-dimensional.
Suggested food pairings include mutton, shepherd's pie, and beef stew. Those dishes fit the beer's profile well, since the roast and malt sweetness should work naturally alongside savory, slow-cooked flavors. For Nomcraft Brewing, a brewery known for approachable beers brewed by an international team in rural Wakayama, NOMCLASSIC Porter is a straightforward but well-considered addition to the lineup.
