New Release Overview

The new release "Gouldian" from Inkhorn Brewing is a West Coast IPA (ABV 7.0%). According to the post, cans are planned for release from next week onward, and for now it looks like draft pours will be the main way to enjoy it.

Flavor Design

The core of the recipe is heavy use of Citra T-90 and Citra Cryo from the 2025 harvest. In addition, Citra LUPOMAX, Citra Incognito, and Idaho 7 are combined to bring out grapefruit-like citrus, underripe mango, and a subtle lychee-like tropical character. Rather than pushing haze, the post itself describes it as a "clear IPA," making the design clearly one that delivers hop aroma sharply.

Collaboration Background and Event Serving

This beer was brewed in the context of celebrating the second anniversary of Osaka's "Goul Goul." The name "Goul" also reflects that intent. It is also scheduled to be served at the anniversary event on Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15, making it a release that includes the value of the on-site experience.

How It Differs from Inkhorn's Usual Approach

The post also mentions that the use of concentrated hop products such as Incognito, LUPOMAX, and Cryo was changed slightly from the brewery's usual approach. In addition, the base malt was not the German-origin malt typically used, but a blend of North American and British malts for this batch. You could call it an experimental lot, built from ingredient choices to achieve the lift and outline characteristic of a West Coast IPA.

Based in Mejiro, Tokyo, Inkhorn Brewing is rooted in the local community as both a brewery and taproom, while consistently releasing IPAs that take this kind of design-difference approach. Rather than an extension of its standard lineup, the brewery's appeal lies in creating differences that stay in the drinker's memory.
