Nomcraft Brewing has introduced Solar Phantom, a Hazy IPA from its brewery in Aridagawa Town, Wakayama Prefecture. The brewery operates out of a renovated former nursery and frames its work as part of a wider effort to build a town around craft beer.
According to the release note, the beer was designed to emphasize a clear orange-and-creamy character. The recipe uses Pale Ale, Pilsner, Wheat malt, and oats, with Citra, Centennial, Amarillo, and Motueka in the hop bill. It is fermented with English Ale Yeast and comes in at 7.0% ABV, 26 IBU, 1.018 FG, and 2.5 volumes of CO2.
The tasting note reads creamy orange, tropical vanilla, and pine. Suggested pairings include sweet and sour pork, roast ham, and maple nuts, which points to a beer that should work well with dishes that bring sweetness, salt, and a bit of richness.
The brewer’s note centers on the balance of light and shadow, giving the beer a clear concept without moving away from a straightforward Hazy IPA structure. Nomcraft’s lineup has long stretched from hop-forward American styles to classic beer styles, and Solar Phantom fits that approach: expressive, accessible, and built around drinkability.
