PECORA BEER, a small brewery in Asao Ward, Kawasaki, began serving its new beer, Bergamo, on July 12. The brewery is operated by a brewer who also holds beer judge credentials, and its lineup is known for balancing clean drinking character with careful flavor design.

Bergamo is an Italian pilsner dry-hopped with German hops. According to the brewery, Saphir is used for both the aroma and the dry-hopping, giving the beer the crisp profile expected of a pilsner while layering in an elegant hop aroma. The beer is listed at 5.0% ABV and 25 IBU, suggesting a restrained but clearly hop-forward lager.

The name also fits PECORA BEER’s identity. Bergamo comes from Bergamasca sheep, a breed associated with the Bergamo region of Lombardy in northern Italy. That animal reference connects naturally with the brewery’s sheep-themed branding and gives the beer an extra layer of story without changing its approachable style.

The beer has also been recognized at the Japan Great Beer Awards 2026, where it won bronze in the keg draft category for “Other Hoppy Lager.” That result points to a beer that keeps the pilsner structure intact while presenting hop character in a disciplined way.

Based in Kawasaki, PECORA BEER continues to build a local brewery identity around precise brewing and easy-to-drink beers. Bergamo looks like a clear expression of that approach: a pilsner with a clean finish, measured bitterness, and a distinct hop aroma built for everyday enjoyment.
