Tokyo's Mejiro-based Inkhorn Brewing introduced its new beer "Bird Wave #3" on Instagram. The style is West Coast Pils, and the alcohol content is 5.5%. The brewery positions it as a beer that combines a light, easy-drinking character with hop aromatics reminiscent of an American IPA.

Bird Wave #3

- Style: West Coast Pils
- ABV: 5.5%
- Malt: Extra Pils, Floor-malted Bohemian Pilsner, Spelt Malt
- Hops: Citra Cryo, Mosaic, Citra, Mosaic Cryo, Chinook Incognito
- Yeast: WHC Lab Einstein

The post explains that the goal was to keep the beer easy to drink at a lower ABV while avoiding a watery impression. It is designed to deliver bright fruit notes reminiscent of lychee and grapefruit from Citra and Mosaic, while still providing bitterness that stands up well against the beer's light body.

It also notes that the standard approach to West Coast Pils is to use European hops in the boil and dry-hop with American hops such as Citra and Mosaic, while this release uses Chinook Incognito in pursuit of a cleaner bitterness. As a result, the hop bill as a whole is centered on American hops.
