A collaboration rooted in British culture

Kamakura Beer, based in Kamakura, Kanagawa, has teamed up with the British Antique Museum BAM Kamakura to create the limited-edition “SH Ale Beer.”

The “SH” in the name refers to Sherlock Holmes. The beer was inspired by the detective’s study at 221B Baker Street in late-19th-century London and brewed in the traditional British brown ale style.

Rich malt character in a balanced brown ale

The beer is presented in 330ml bottles at 5.0% ABV. It has a deep brown color, roasted-malt aroma, refined malt sweetness, and a gentle bitterness. Despite its rich character, the beer is described as smooth and balanced, making it suitable for a relaxed drink after dinner.

Kamakura Beer recommends pairing it with roast ham, roast beef, beef stew, spareribs, dishes with soy or butter-based sauces, and mature cheeses. It can also complement desserts such as chocolate cake and brownies. The beer carries on the recipe philosophy of Kamakura Beer’s “Hana” brown ale.

Reservations begin September 23

Reservations open on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, with three-bottle and six-bottle sets available. Orders are scheduled to ship successively from November. Because production is limited, orders placed after the initial batch may be shipped following a subsequent brew. The beer should be refrigerated at 10°C or below.

BAM Kamakura presents British antiques dating back more than a century and includes a recreation of Sherlock Holmes’ room. Bringing together the museum’s British atmosphere and Kamakura Beer’s local brewing, “SH Ale Beer” offers a narrative-driven bottle for fans of beer, history, and mystery.
