Nutori Brewing in Kawaguchi, Saitama, announced a new beer on Instagram on July 8: "Bakushu Yako - Hyakki no Kuro." In the post, the brewery describes the beer as having an adult, cold-coffee-like character, evoking the feeling of drinking iced coffee.
The project is a collaboration with storyteller Kanda Yonomaru, which gives the beer a strong narrative angle. The visual design was handled by beer illustrator TOA, helping the concept come through not only in flavor but also in presentation.
One of the most notable details is the coffee ingredient. Nutori says it uses Guatemala "defect beans" handled by Ryoke Green Gables in Ageo, Saitama, turning material that might otherwise be overlooked into an upcycled beer. That approach fits the brewery's style: practical, local, and concept-driven.
Nutori Brewing operates on the ground floor of a 50-year-old apartment building in a residential area near Kawaguchi Station and has been brewing there since February 2021. The brewery also serves food alongside its beers, which makes this new release feel like a natural extension of its neighborhood-based, hands-on brewing culture.
