Inkhorn Brewing, based in Mejiro, Toshima Ward, Tokyo, has unveiled a new beer called 'Flocc Members.' The style is Neon Pilsner, and the ABV is 5.5%. The malt bill uses Extra Pils and Wheat, the hops are Halleratu Tradition and Mega Motueka, and the yeast is WHC Lab Einstein.

This beer is being described as a release that has been a long time coming. According to the brewery, combining Mega Motueka with German hops layers a touch of fruitiness onto the floral and spicy character typical of a pilsner. Adding wheat malt further leaves the aromatic impression lingering longer while also giving the beer more body and smoothness.

The name 'Flocc' comes from flocculation, which refers to yeast's ability to clump together. It was originally named in connection with an attempt to make a clear lager that did not go as planned, and the name has been used continuously since 2021. This time, because of yeast-related circumstances, the brewing process was designed with haze in mind from the start, so it may appear quite cloudy immediately after pouring.

As a brewery in Mejiro, Inkhorn Brewing seems to carefully balance aroma and mouthfeel even in its lager-oriented beers. Flocc Members appears to be a new release that clearly shows that approach.
