A destination built around craft beer

Manchin Brewing, based in Akeno, Hokuto, Yamanashi, has introduced MANGOSTEEN HOKUTO, a complex centered on craft beer and local culture.

The site brings together three spaces: Manchin Brewing, the brewery; Manchin Sake Shop, a bottle shop and taproom; and Manchin Bao, a casual restaurant. The name reflects the concept of combining three “Manchin” spaces—an idea built around the Japanese words for “many” and “unusual.”

The brewery produces craft beer in Hokuto, at the southern foothills of the Yatsugatake range. Its facility was converted from a former factory and includes large brewing tanks. The brewery also aims to work with agricultural products from the surrounding area, while using water that includes groundwater from nearby Mount Kayagatake.

At Manchin Sake Shop, visitors can drink Manchin Brewing beers on tap and purchase cans, mezcal, and organic wine. The space also functions as a bar and event venue, with a sound system for DJ performances and live music.

Manchin Bao adds a food element to the complex. Spent malt from the brewing process is incorporated into dumpling wrappers, giving the by-product a second life as part of a meal designed to pair with beer.

Set among Hokuto’s rural scenery, with views toward the Southern Alps and Yatsugatake, MANGOSTEEN HOKUTO offers more than a brewery visit. Guests can combine beer, food, music, and art, including the nearby GASBON METABOLIZM art facility, in one destination.
