Baeren Brewery, based in Morioka, Iwate, has released its “Baeren Weizen.” The release date is September 18, 2026.

Weizen is a traditional beer style widely enjoyed in southern Germany. Its defining feature is the use of at least 50% wheat malt. Baeren’s interpretation focuses on the soft grain character and expressive yeast profile associated with the style.

The beer’s most distinctive quality is its aroma. Top-fermenting yeast produces fruity notes reminiscent of ripe banana, layered with a clove-like spice. Rather than emphasizing assertive hop bitterness, the beer invites drinkers to linger over its fragrance and smooth texture.

On the palate, the rich aroma gives way to a gentle, rounded impression of wheat malt. As an unfiltered, yeast-containing beer, it also presents the softly hazy appearance typical of a traditional Weizen. It can be enjoyed on its own, or paired with sausages, ham, cheese, and other lightly seasoned dishes.

Baeren Brewery was founded in Morioka in 2003. The brewery uses brewing equipment transferred from Germany, including vessels more than 100 years old, while producing a broad range of European-style beers such as Classic, Schwarz, and Alt. Its Weizen offers another approachable way to experience the brewery’s commitment to German brewing traditions.

The beer is expected to be available through Baeren’s official web shop and other sales channels. With its fragrant yeast character and soft wheat malt body, it is well suited to relaxed autumn meals and unhurried tasting.
