Nutori Brewing taps new hojicha ale made with Kagoshima tea
Nutori Brewing in Kawaguchi, Saitama has introduced a new beer, Nuto-chan Hojicha Flavor. The ale is brewed with Kagoshima hojicha, and the brewery says it looks hazy but finishes clean and easy to drink.
Kawaguchi-based Nutori Brewing has announced a new tap, Nuto-chan Hojicha Flavor. According to the post, it is a savory ale brewed with hojicha from Kagoshima, with a hazy appearance but a refreshing, clean drinking impression.
Nutori Brewing has been making beer in a neighborhood setting in Kawaguchi since February 2021. Its official site describes the brewery as operating in a renovated 50-year-old apartment building, where a small brewing setup is used to produce a wide range of house beers. Next to the brewery, the attached Biiro Shokudo Nutori serves beer alongside food, making the venue more than just a taproom.
This release appears to lean on hojicha’s roasted aroma while keeping the finish light. Beer brewed with tea is no longer unusual, but Nutori’s approach seems focused on clarity of flavor rather than novelty alone. That fits the brewery’s overall style: small-scale, local, and built around beers that are easy to enjoy with food.
For drinkers in the Kawaguchi area, it is another example of how Nutori continues to use its compact setup to produce distinctive beers with a strong sense of place. The new hojicha ale should appeal to people looking for something aromatic, but not heavy.
